I thought I’d posted this before, but apparently not, and my friend Russ asked to see it. So here it is.
An affectionate mickey stake of some of the slam / performance poets on the Adelaide scene. Pretty soon, someone will write a piece taking the mick out of me.
Recorded at RebelSlam in July 2011, when it was at the old Electra building in King William Street, Adelaide, with the ‘Tuxedo Cat’ brass plate outside.
I went along to see what the Adelaide RebelSlam meetings were like, in July 2011. Took a couple of pieces with me. Slamming, if you don’t know about it, is competitive poetry! Random members of the audience give each poet marks out of 10. The top 3 or 4 or more go onto the next round etc. until the final round, when the top scorer is the champ for the night. It’s not too serious however. Nobody gets too upset about losing, or too excited about winning.
Anyway, despite being freezing cold, in a semi condemned building in King William St., it was good fun, and there were some top performers there.
Wierdly enough, I ended up winning the event. Here is the piece I did in the ‘final’.
